I had to get ready for the arrival of chicks. So Tyrone needed to move out of the weasel proof pen. He was not happy, hiding for the first several days. But now he is out and about. He is definitely turning into a pet chicken through. He follows me around and likes to be picked up and petted.
The chicks arrived in the mail on Friday morning. Here is half of the box. I forgot to take a photo of the other half.
I immediately noticed some unusual chicks. This is a turken chick.
This one had unusual coloring. I decided that it is probably a Columbian Wyandotte.
This one has a distinctive white spot on the top of its head. I am thinking that it may be a male Bielefelder.
Here they are the first day with their heater and water.
Here they are Saturday morning. We did lose one orange chick but otherwise they are doing well.
Today I took photos of some of the individual chicks.
In other news, Wally is helping with the chores each morning. She doesn’t go in the barn yet but everywhere else.
On Monday we watched the Canadian election coverage on CBC. It was interesting.
On Tuesday I checked out the orchard. The quince blossoms are quite pretty.
One of our pear trees is covered with lots of tiny pears.
Ever our Barland pear tree (which has never made a pear for me) appears to have a lot of tiny developing pears.
The pink rhody is looking great.
The 2711 lilac is going crazy. I had to cut it back.
The Golden Chain trees are also going crazy.
The Bugleweed is blooming well in our front yard.
Our dining room table was still invaded by an incubator and tomato starts. I added some lilac trimmings.
The swallows are here. I first noticed them last week but now they are more obvious.
Yesterday we watched the Kentucky Derby while sipping Mint Juleps. It was quite a race.
Today, Tom finished putting a new garden fence up. It is looking great.
I moved the tomato starts out to the greenhouse, and Roscoe took over their spot.
Unfortunately today I found out that he has been peeing in an upstairs closet. He did accidentally get locked into the bedroom upstairs by the grandkids, but other times I am sure he is intimidated by Wally and choose to pee upstairs instead. So a good portion of today was cleaning this mess up.

yay for chicks! garden looks great- y’all have amazing soil. sorry to hear about the surprise Roscoe’s left for you upstairs. I’ve still got some extra tomatoes if you want any-
I love having chicks. They just make me smile. We do have amazing soil. I could definitely use extra tomatoes. You can see how pitiful mine are on the dining room table.
I really enjoyed reading your post and looking at all the great pictures! The little chicks are just darling! It was a surprise to see how many different colors there are. How many did you order? The colors are beautiful.
This is a replacement for the March order, and there are 52 chicks. There are a lot of colors and patterns so it is fun.
