Dog House

So the weather has turned cold. And our old and skinny beagle was shivering the other day. We are not excited to put dog sweaters on him with his arthritis, so we got the idea of putting a weatherproof heating pad in a dog house for him. The problem is that he uses what used to be our pump house as his dog house, and it is falling apart. The roof leaks, and it is nowhere near electricity. Here it is:

So yesterday Tom got the idea of revamping the house he had made for Sunny. He moved it to near our front door, and put in a new floor. He made the opening smaller to hold out the wind better. He added a dog ramp. We put in a waterproof dog bed with the heating pad inside and then a fleece blanket over that. Here it is:

This is Rocky checking it out,

And here he is sleeping in it.

Apparently today he slept in it too whenTom was running errands. So it looks like we have success Rocky can be in the house when we are around, but if not he has a heated bed in his dog house he can stay warm in. Hopefully he will be more comfortable this way.

New (to us) Washer

So we tried replacing the lid lock mechanism and then the actuator and still our washer would not work.  Our laundry was piling up so yesterday Tom quickly headed to Habitat for Humanity just before they closed for the day and came home with a washer.

So now we are catching up with the washing.  And today, nobody has died.  I did notice pretty moist spider webs.  The photo does not do it justice.

My left foot is killing me.  It is really interfering with the farm chores.  I went to my doctor today, and it is not related to being run over but is plantar fasciitis.  And I am doing most everything right to treat it.  So just needs more care and time to get better.

Dead Chicks

Remember last post when I decided to remove the mean hen, thinking that the only damage I was doing was causing 2 lonely chicks.  Well, the other hen killed them.  And I f***ed up again.  Tom told me when I got home from work this morning after a brutal shift.  It was hard to take.  I feel like a complete idiot.  My only consolation is that I told Tom of my plans, and he did not think it was a deadly decision.  But turns out it was.  RIP, little chicks.  I am so sorry I messed up so bad, and you had terrible deaths because of it.
