Rent a Hen

So it has been a long while since I have blogged about our ” Rent A Hen” business.  I bring it up now because three of our hen were returned from their “job” yesterday.  We rent chickens to folks that would like some hens in their yard and their eggs but do not want to deal with finding care for them at vacation time or keeping them through the winter when the egg production is down.  Our business is not too successful as we have only ever had two clients, but one I have had for over 10 years now.

I think it is a great idea and a win-win for all concerned.  The renter gets no muss, no fuss chickens and fresh eggs at home and returns them when they want.  The chickens get a nice yard, gorgeous coop, Adirondack chairs to sit in, lots of food, and no roosters.  They come back fat and sassy.  And I get a small fee, invariably extra food, three less chickens to take care of when I tend to have too many eggs anyway.

What a great idea! As long as the ‘renters’ have good, safe housing for the chickens while they have them.

Gee ~ I wonder if anyone would be interested in renting a ROOSTER (or 20!)???

    😉
