“Young and Old” or “Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner”

So Tom found chicks hatched, hidden under the sheep feeder again yesterday.  This morning when we went out, the Araucana hen had moved 9 of the chicks into the barn pen designated for chick rearing and left one behind I had to retrieve.  This time she is taking care of them.  Five of them are light yellow (Araucanas) and 5 are brown striped (Brown Leghorns).  We now have then situated and they are doing well.

The nest above the rabbit hutch has produced yet another batch of barn swallow chicks about to take flight.  One is missing, and I hope has already flown.

And Sydney continues to be cute and make me smile every day.

We did rescue a baby frog from the chick pen and moved it to the ditch, but I could not get a photo of him as he was quite the jumper.

In the old department, Jenny enjoys breakfast in bed in the sunshine.  She will not last this winter but is enjoying the bread and heat in the last of her days.

Sydney is adorable, reminds me of hot chocolate. Jenny looks so sweet. Reminds me of our old Lab Maggie, who we lost this summer. Bless you for making her last days nice.

Thanks Liz. She is like hot chocolate, isn’t she? I sure hope she keeps her color. Her half sister started off like a dark chocolate teddy bear and is now black. Jenny is now sweet. She did not used to be but has calmed in her old age. I am trying hard to make them nice and not prolong any suffering. She seems content to me and as long as she can get around without appearing to be too painful and eating well, I will spoil her. She has made beautiful wool and lambs for me over the years, and it is pay back time.
