A Gift for Me

So I bought myself a present.  I have long wanted this, but felt it was too extravagant and thought maybe I could buy it for myself at my retirement. But then in January 2017 the maker announced he would stop taking orders on new wheels that March. So I put in my order and deposit.

Then this July I made it to the top of the list, and the work began. It was ready last night so today I went to pick it up.

Compass Rose Farm duck shelter

And here it is! It spins like a dream as I spun an ounce of Jocko, and his sons, Bambam and Harlen, roving in no time at all. It is amazing adjustable, and my back stayed happy as I spun.

It is amazing work of art. I sent Gary photos of Jocko for the head carving and the wood color. I sent him photos of my pastures with sheep for the wheel paintings. And I sent him photos of Bob and Diddley for the hubs.

And here is the artist that create the wheel of my dreams. His name is Gary Peterson, and his post about my wheel is at Olympic Spinning Wheels.

And here is my precious Jocko wheel traveling home in the passenger seat.

And here he is in his new home and his features:

It’s amazing, Donna, and thrilling to hear that it spins as good as it looks. You’ll treasure it until you die – and hopefully a family member will treasure it after that!

Your wheel is so very beautiful and unique. I wonder if this is the wheel maker I saw at OFFF two years ago. They had many differing designs and carvings. Good for U.🌸

I’m so happy you are able to get one of his fantastic wheels!!!
I have always admired his work.

I was just stunned, when I first saw this! I’ve been to OFFF – but I don’t think I ever saw any of Mr. Petersen’s work. What a wonderful work of art! It made me sad, though, that he will no longer be making wheels. How much spinning have you done with Jocko?

    • Donna says:

It sounds like he will be continuing. He just did not want a 2 year wait list. But he is over 70 so I am glad I got on the list. I have spun as much as I can, Four times total now and probably 4 ounces. But thrilled to have Jocko in my living room!

I’m really glad to know that he will continue to make his beautiful wheels! Thanks for letting me know. Sorry to be so slow in my reply!

OMG, I am in love!!!! I spin on a Babe, so not so pretty by any means. LOL. But every time I think about getting a wood wheel that’s prettier, I think of how well we work together at this point and where else I can spend the money. You know how it is on a farm. But Someday. . .
