Emotional farming

I had a couple of rough days this week.  I believe it was the result of a really rough work shift, severe sleep deprivation and my old computer dying.  I have a Power Mac G5 that finally gave up the ghost on Sunday.  I had an additional Hitachi hard drive to store my data but wasn’t sure I would be able to retrieve it.  And this is the vast majority of my emails, files, photos, etc.  I was particularly worried about getting my financial data and saved emails.  But I still had to do the farming chores (although I slept Sunday while Tom did the chores).

On Monday we did rotate the cows into the field with the alpaca.  I wasn’t sure how this would go.  Here they are meeting.

And a little later.

Nothing major happened, but Fidalgo kept as close to the sheep as fencing would allow.  So I tried again to get him to go to where the sheep are, but he can’t quite navigate the gates.  So now he is in the alleyway with the old sheep and goat.  So far that is going well.  They do not seem to be scared of him as the younger sheep for some reason.

So this next photo is fairly gory, but I am curious about the story behind these small organs hanging on our fence.  Clearly something happened.

Tom picked up the last Harris Walz sign in our county and put it in our front yard.  Steve appeared to be supportive (but has no idea about the upcoming election).

For dinner Tuesday I made Roast Chicken with Maple Butter and Rosemary, and it was really good.  I was coming out of my funk that evening, partly due to a bath I took that afternoon, but the chicken likely helped too.

I decided that I chose well with the rooster and tom turkey we kept.  They are both mild mannered and handsome.

But mostly I have been concerning myself with recovering the data from the hard drives.  Here is the set up I have made to do this.  So far I have been able to access emails and documents.  I am struggling still with the Quicken data and photos.  Wish me luck with all of this.

This evening, a raptor visited by our back fence camera.  It is quite striking.  Let me know if you know what it is.

For dinner tonight I made Buttered Fresh Tomato Sauce with our tomatoes and basil and served it with our sausage and spaghetti squash.  It was really good, but I ate most of it before I thought to take a photo.  So that was my emotional week, and I get to go back to work tomorrow.  Hopefully it will not be as rough as last weekend.

I’d bet it is a red-tailed hawk. If you go frame-by-frame in the fly-away video, its red tail is clearly visible, along with the dark edges along pale underwings, etc. Look at the left photo here: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Red-tailed_Hawk/species-compare/

My very first thought was Perigrin Falcon. The leaver of your entrails on the fence. The kind of entrails ….well I Sherlocked my way right out of an answer. Possibly rabbit , I would check on your kitty.
    The chicken looks yummy.
As far as the computer… I hope your head doesn’t explode…you are a better man than I Gunga Din.

Thanks. Sounds like it might be a red tailed hawk. But I hadn’t put the entrails together with the raptor. You can’t tell from my photo but they are tiny. More like a mouse than a rabbit. I hope my head doesn’t explode too. Not sure I am better. Maybe stupider in fact to think I can figure this out on my own.

I think Michelle is right! I watched that video three times, to make sure there was red showing in the tail of that bird. He could certainly fly quickly.

I’m very sorry about your laptop. Have you been able to go further in your search of what you can find. I remember, when I took classes, the instructor always said “Make a back-up of your information.”

I am glad you agree. It was a desk computer not my laptop and I was backing everything up in this extra hard drive I added. But now I need to extract the data. And some of it has been difficult so far to find.
