Mid December

There is not a lot (thankfully) happening on the farm.  My ribs are slowly getting better, and I am able to participate more in the chores.  Roscoe is slowly getting more comfortable with us.  Today we even got the goats’ hooves trimmed (only a month late).

But I have been doing some cooking.  On Tuesday I used this Sautéed cod with pesto sauce recipe (that had been in our local newspaper) on salmon for me and halibut for Tom.  The pesto was some I made in the summer with our basil and froze.  Unfortunately I do not have much in the way of ripe tomatoes from our garden so had to use canned tomato sauce.  But it was really good and festively colored.

On Wednesday I made Julskinka (Swedish Christmas Ham),  I know it doesn’t look like much, but it was tasty!

One main issue for us has been that our wall heaters have not been working well.  Since our pellet stove tried to burn our house down last year, we have been relying on these units to heat us.  But they were put in over 20 years ago by an electrician that we have since learned was not very good.  The one in our dining room keeps blowing the breaker, and the one in our living room quit completely last weekend.  So we were using a plug in heater trying to stay warm.

An electrician came out Tuesday and said that the heaters were not tamped down appropriately for the breaker.  And the thermostat had given out on the living room heater.  So he did these repairs, but the breaker blew again the following morning.  He came back out again Wednesday and tamped that heater down more, and it has been working well ever since.  So now longer feeling cold in our home.

I had another rough shift at work on Thursday so slept most of Friday.  But that evening I was feeling reflective and enjoying our Christmas tree,

Last evening we met my father and Mo to celebrate his upcoming birthday at Anthony’s in Everett.  It was all very nice and culminated with a pear and huckleberry sorbet that apparently was amazing (I had a chocolate dessert so did not try it).

On the drive home, we admired the Tulalip lights from a distance.  Traffic was rough, and we had a trailer so didn’t get closer.

Currently watching the Seahawks play the Packers on Sunday Night Football.   Go Hawks!

P.S. I finished Food in History book recently.  It was written in the early 1970s and updated in the mid 1980s so not sure how up to date it, is but it was fascinating to me learning the foods used through many cultures and through many ages.  Recommended.

    wow. kind of sounds like those electric units might have been trying to burn your house down as well! Glad you got an electrician in there to check it out. Hope that the ribs continue to improve and that you’re able to have a cozy and pain free holiday 🙂

      Thanks Denise! Not sure about burning the house down but not good regardless. Glad it appears to be solved. I hope the ribs continue to heal and I can have a pain free Christmas!

    Sorry for being so late! I’ve been really busy. Both my daughter and I have had quite a few medical appointments.

    I’m very thankful that you were able to get those heaters taken care of, before they caused more problems! Your Christmas tree is lovely.

      Well, I am glad you both are looking after your health. I am so glad that the heaters were working before Christmas. My ribs aren’t pain free, but they are a lot better than they were.
