The weather changed Labor Day weekend. This is our Sunday morning.
Tom is feeding the pigs with the alpaca and sheep watching.
On Labor Day I was finally able to get the goats’ hooves trimmed. I was about 1 month late, but they didn’t look bad.
In the old pheasant pen I found this. Tom is thinking that it is an old chisel or rasp.
We have found quite a few old implements in the dirt of our farm. Here are some of them displayed.
In the orchard I went to check on the peaches. I found this Asian Pear tree had fallen over due to the weight of all of the pears. This is sad as it is one of our better producers.
About half of the peaches had already fallen on the ground, but I was able to pick quite a few. This is some of them.
I was able to can some and keep some that are not quite ripe. It is not a great amount, but better than last year when I lost all of the peaches.
Today I was finally able to start fermenting some dill pickles. Three of the cucumbers are way too big for pickles. I have been eating a lot of cucumbers in salads for over 2 weeks, and it is getting old.
This afternoon I was getting ready to vacuum, and I lifted a pillow from the couch and found this.
I think it is a salamander. I suspect that Wally may have brought it into the house. I was able to move it out of the house to the roses out front. Hopefully it does well. It is always something.

Oh, that last would have given me a temporary start! I have yet to get some peaches to freeze, and am running out of time!
It definitely surprised me! Peaches do not wait. I learned that last year.
I’m like Michelle! But my “start” would have been a pretty big one! How did you handle getting it outside? I may have even shrieked, if it were found in my house! Snakes and lizards are in our yard, and I wouldn’t like to fine either one in the house! I suspected right away, that the cat would have been the culprit!
I actually didn’t vocalize anything, which is impressive. I put a glass bowl over it, a scapula under it, and took it outside. It seemed to go well. I still suspect Wally, but she’s not talking.
that’s a shame about the asian pear tree. it does look like it was really loaded! i’ve found geckos in our house twice over the years- one I was able to guide out the backdoor, and the other I collected in a tupperware container and transported outside. it’s funny, I’ve never seen one out on our property- just in the house!
I have seen them in the yard, but this is the fist time in the house. They are cute. It is sad about the tree. I have slight hopes of pulling the fruit off once ripe and trying to stand the tree back up again. But I suspect it’s a goner.
