I still love Halloween. Not entirely sure why, but it seems to be a holiday that fits with the season well. I did manage to carve one crude pumpkin this year.
And I did get the living room decorations ready. This year I added a skull.
On Tuesday Tom and I saw the new Frankenstein movie. I loved it.
I have our Halloween candy ready. But we’ve been nibbling on some the whole month.
Today I ate the Memento Mori Medallion we bought from Shane Confectionery. It is their take on the Victorian tradition of the Funeral Biscuit as a reminder of our mortality.
And I participated in Things that go BUMP in the night: A Halloween (online) Happening by Paul Couchman – The Regency Cook- and Sarah Tobias. It was great fun exploring the poetic, culinary and mischievous traditions of Samhain and Halloween.
I plan on making a pork leg roast for dinner with pumpkin as a side dish. Then watching Svengoolie with candlelight while eating candy and sipping red wine. It is supposed to be stormy too which should add to the effect (assuming the power stays on).
Have a Happy Halloween!!!!
P.S. I realized that my pork leg roast did not have a rind so the recipe I chose wasn’t appropriate. So I opted instead to make Maple Glazed Fresh Ham Roast instead. I was only able to brine it for 1 hour, but it came out great. And with our corn and pumpkin it was a farm meal as well.
Plus I decided to make an Obituary cocktail. It was tasty and spooky too- perfect!
We ended up watching What Ever Happened To Baby Jane? as our movie. It was House of Svengoolie hosting instead of Svengoolie so that was disappointing. And the movie’s ending left me a little disappointed as well. But it was a good movie with two amazing actresses so I did appreciate that.

Sounds like you had a nice Halloween 🎃 ! The momento mori is really interesting. Is that glazed gingerbread?
It was nice and low key. It was a glazed ginger cookie and yummy.
