Shearing season
Today I started shearing the sheep. I’m starting with the ewes since they are dry in their pen, and they’ll take up less space without their wool. They’ll get less hay in their wool once they’re sheared. I also can updated their shots, trim their hooves and worm them, if needed.
The photo is of Sadie, my first sheep. She’s quite pregnant. Her wool production is much less as she has gotten older, but she’s maintain a deep chocolate color. As big as she is, I wonder if she’s going to have triplets.
I managed to shear 4 sheep before my back became too sore to continue. I was pretty uncomfortable until a took a warm bath. I have found that a nice hot bubble bath cures many a farm ache.
