Shearing Day 2021

Here are photos of the sheep recently.

But on shearing day, of course, the weather was dreadful.

But the sheep still needed to be shorn.

There was Eliz and I as well.  We were behind the shearer so lots of butt shots.

After the wool was laid out, we came in for Shetland Sunday Tea treats.  Most of these I made from recipes from Shetland: Cooking on the Edge of the World by James and Tom Morton.  I also made a Orkney Beremeal Tea Loaf.  And Eliz kindly brought us some banana bread.  It was all a nice treat after shearing.

They look good! So much faster to have them done by a professional….

Yes it is and easier on the back. But I only have 9 relatively young sheep for shearing. Now there are 8 older sheep I will need to shear myself when it is warmer.

Nothing like shearing on your birthday!?
Looks like it all turned out well, including some delish treats.
    Happy Birthday!

Thanks! We did have one prior shearing day on my birthday. This one went quickly. About one hour. But we got to meet up with old friends and nine sheep are sheared with lovely wool as a result. A great birthday!

Thanks! The sheep do look much less scruffy after shearing. But of course it has gone cold at night. I hope they are OK this morning. The sun is rising and will warm them up. The snacks were delicious (except the Fairy Cakes). I hope you are healing.
