Christmasy, Wet Week

On Thursday, Mom and I had a Christmasy day.  We first went to Ikea because I wanted to do some shopping there.  I have only been there once before with Mom, but I thought it might have some nice gifts.  Here is a fascinating vehicle in the parking lot.  I texted a photo to Tom, and he came back with “Would make a nice present!”.  Ha!

Mom and I had Swedish meatballs for lunch, overlooking a rainy parking lot.  They were really good.  In fact, we both bought some frozen ones to take home.  Tom and I ended up having some of them Friday evening for dinner as well.

Mom and I went to Bellevue Square to continue shopping.  After some effort, we found everything on my list.  Then we headed to the 5th Avenue Theater for a show.  This was my present for my mother.

We saw Irving Berlin’s White Christmas.  It was really fun, and there was snow in the end.  You can’t really see it in my photo though.

Back to the wet farm, one of our young peacocks is starting to show off.  Not sure any of the other birds were impressed.

The geese love the weather, but nobody else does.

We got 4 inches. That is highly unusual for us.

Tonight I continued the holiday theme.  I made individual venison wellingtons for dinner.  Mine had spinach and mushrooms as well as the venison, but I made 4 without these vegetables for Tom.  They were good, and the gravy was really nice with it.

I have to work Christmas Eve this year so am trying to get my Christmasy stuff done early.  I think I am making great progress.

I’ll say that you and your mom had a very busy and fun day!! You really packed the day full! Was your mom thrilled to see the show? I certainly would have been! Your lunch plate looked delicious.

I’m surprised that your young peacock is strutting around and showing off. I’m sure the other birds will pay more attention to him before long.

    Your venison wellingtons looked great.

I’m sorry you have to work Christmas Eve.

Thanks for making that clear. Its got to be upsetting for you. I grew up with parents who didn’t bring Santa into our lives. We always had the children’s Christmas Eve service first, then at home we opened our gifts. On Christmas morning we had a nice breakfast and then went to the Christmas morning service. Our whole lives were involved in our church. So either way, I would have been upset having the work schedule you’ll be doing. I can really sympathise with you.

Growing up, my mother’s family celebrated Christmas Eve with a prime rib dinner, plum pudding and present opening from family members. Christmas mornings we would wake up and have presents from Santa and then see various family for other food and presents. It was always a long holiday but fun. Even though we went to church with our stepmother, it was never part of our Christmas.
