But first, I want to acknowledge that I finished my Vararfeldur shawl. This is a medieval Icelandic shawl that was made on warp weighted looms with Icelandic sheep fleeces. I have been wanting to make one for a while and started it with the Summer Olympics but have finished it thanks to my weekly zoom weaving sessions. Unfortunately it will need to stay on the loom until I finish weaving other projects on the same warp. This is not authentic as it is not the right dimensions, it was made on a floor loom, and I used Gotland fleeces. But still happy to have experienced this ancient garment.
The day after the Super Bowl I made Chicken and Sausage Gumbo. It was a tribute to New Orleans. And it was amazingly good! Perfect for a cold winter’s dinner.
Just a photo of Wally enjoying my computer chair.
On Tuesday I was finally able to watch Janette Budge’s Flock Book and Fleece: A Conversation with the Doull Family that I purchased a while ago. It is a discussion about Shetland sheep, a topic I am somewhat obsessed with.
On Thursday early morning I made Special K cookies. These are the cookies that my grandmother made for us grandkids, and I loved them. So I made them for my grandkids.
Then I was able to do my spinning zoom meeting with a pretty sunrise.
Chores were after this. Tom got this photo of the dogs enjoying the sun at this time.
We picked up the grandkids after they got off the school bus in the afternoon. Then we went to the pet store, and William picked out a new goldfish to replace Calvstina. He picked this fish and named it Jeffstina (Jeff for short). Hopefully Jeff thrives here.
After the fish got settled, we headed to Bigfoot’s Den for dinner. There was a 1960 Corvette in front. Sedro-Woolley was hopping.
The kids absolutely love this place. They enjoy all the games, and I think the grandparents do too.
Piper wanted to slap Bigfoot’s butt.
And William wanted Bigfoot to hold his head.
After dinner back at home, we headed upstairs to the library. William was playing with my chicken pecking toy.
I got a glimpse of all of my Tom Robbins books. He will be missed.
William and Piper enjoyed the rocking chair. Who knew?
Piper had got me a really sweet Valentine’s Day present.
Friday morning I tried to get the chores done before the kids woke up. I was greeted by Trumpeter Swans flying around.
Piper and I made jello animals. Unfortunately later they didn’t come out of the molds well.
Then Piper was coloring while Tom and William looked at motorcycles for sale online.
For lunch Williams wanted a grilled peanut butter and banana sandwich.
I put my new squishy sheep by my computer monitor where all of my favorite do dads are.
Piper got in her Valentine pink clothes, and we headed to the barn.
She petted Shorty, one of her favorite animals.
Meanwhile Tom and William were working on motorcycles in the garage.
Piper and I headed to the library where she compared her hand to Tom’s from when he was six. Hers is just a little bit smaller.
We got an antique small chalkboard out of the toy chest. I have no memory of where this came from. It has the name Sammie carved into it crudely.
She made this chalk Valentine for Tom.
Then we played Tic Tac Toe. This is where Piper won.
Piper and Ryeleigh then took longs naps on the couch. And I was able to get my taxes done.
I made cheddar cheese fondue for dinner. It didn’t quite turn out but was still tasty. We had the SNL 50: The Homecoming Concert streaming live.
I made a variety of meats, vegetables and bread/pasta to dip. It was actually fun and messy.
Then we started dancing to the music of the concert . There was David Byrne with Arcade Fire, St. Vincent, and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. It was fun seeing the grandkids dancing to David Byrne.
Then there was Nirvana with Post Malone as lead singer. It was amazing.
Then Beyonce and Prince came on (not really).
This morning the trumpeter swans were flying over at sunrise. So wonderful.
Our young peacock is still trying to impress.
Wally looked comfortable on the tractor.
Our house is a mess with all of the kids’ stuff everywhere. But it is fun.
Piper enjoyed more chalk work. She is quite the artist.
Meanwhile William was riding around on the Honda XL 80 that they just got running. Unfortunately he was having trouble with a stiff clutch.
Today it is Steve’s Gotcha Day. It’s been 7 years since we adopted him from the Skagit Humane Society. Time flies. He is such a good dog. We all four sang for him, and Piper blew out the candle. The hamburger is thoroughly cooked (it doesn’t look like it in the candlelight).
Piper made a hat out of a paper towel today. I thought it was ingenious (and quite cute).
So that has been our amazing week. Sorry for all the photos, but I want to preserve memories. I have to work tomorrow, and the kids will be going home.

I’m intrigued by your Vararfeldur shawl. I can hardly wait until it’s off the loom and finished!
I will post about it when it comes off of the loom but it will be a while. I did post more about it on ravelry with links. You could check it out there as well. I am donnaschoon
I agree with Marlys. It’s fascinating!
The pictures.are all very nice. Your grandkids are so cute!
I have an old chicken pecking toy similar to yours. It looks a little different, but the same idea.
Take care and get some rest.
Glad you are intrigued as well. They both enjoyed the chickens pecking. It’s fun that these kids like a lot of the things that I liked as a child. Unfortunately no rest for the weary.
What a fun filled time with your grandkids! I love the artwork, dancing, food, animals and especially your library! I am going to try grilling my p butter and banana sandwiches and attempt a fondue. Love Steves birthday cake too. I bet the kids love staying with you and Tom.
So glad you enjoyed the blog post. And I really hope you like the sandwiches and fondue. I hope that they loved it. It sounds like they did.
I love your house. Great memories for all. Lotsa love included. Thanks for all the photos.
I love it too. Thanks!
